Australian Desert Life
published by Periwinkle Colour Series - Landsdowne Press, Melbourne 1969
Few areas of the Australian continent contain such a rich variety of life as the deserts of the interio; home of creatures as different as the giant Perentie lizard which can grow to almost three metres long, and desert mice which can hop like kangaroos.
This book describes some of the common examples of desert life and explains how they have adapted to their harsh environment. With 50 photographs in coloiur, line drawings and monochromes.
A major part of the Australian landform is arid. Australia contains the second largest area of arid land in any continent. This sparse land, covers 70% of the continent. Although this is a great area of arid land, very little of it is true sand desert.
